How big should a chandelier be?
Add the room's length and width in feet; the sum in inches is a good starting diameter. A 12 by 14 foot room suits a fixture around 26 inches across.
Over a dining table, use roughly half to two-thirds the table width and hang the bottom 30 to 36 inches above the tabletop.
In an open room, hang the bottom at least 7 feet off the floor so nobody walks into it.
Layering light
A room needs three layers to feel finished: the overhead fixture, a floor lamp for the seating area and a table lamp at eye level. Relying on the ceiling alone is what makes a well-furnished room still feel flat at night.
Keep bulb colour consistent across all three. Around 2700K reads warm and residential; mixing temperatures is what makes lighting look accidental.
