A 68 inch top gives you a monitor, a notebook and a lamp without crowding, and still reads as furniture rather than equipment when the laptop is closed.

Leave at least 36 inches of clearance behind the desk so a chair can roll back freely. If the desk faces a window, plan for glare and place the monitor at right angles to the glass instead of in front of it.
