Sizing a bench for the end of a bed
The bench should be narrower than the bed — roughly 60 to 75 percent of the mattress width — so the bed still frames it. A queen takes a bench around 45 to 55 inches wide.
Leave at least 12 inches between the mattress edge and the bench so the bedding drapes, and keep a 30 inch walkway around the foot of the bed.
Seat height around 18 inches is the comfortable range for sitting to put shoes on, in a bedroom or an entryway.
Styling it
A fur bench is texture, so keep the bedding calm: washed linen or embroidered cotton in the same tone family. Then let the bench be the soft thing.
In an entry, pair it with a mirror or wall sculpture above and a rug underneath, and leave the seat clear. A bench that is always covered stops being furniture.
