How to mix pillows properly
Work in odd numbers and vary the size: a 22 inch, a 20 inch and a lumbar reads far better than three identical squares. On a sectional, run five across the corner.
Vary texture before colour. One long-pile fur, one flat velvet, one embroidered or beaded piece gives a sofa depth even when everything is the same shade.
Size the insert up by two inches over the cover. A 20 inch cover on a 22 inch insert is what makes a pillow look full instead of limp.
Living with a Mongolian fur pillow
Long-pile fur flattens where people lean. Shake it out and comb the pile with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb and it recovers immediately.
Keep fur off direct sun to protect the colour, and spot-clean only — soaking the backing is what ruins these.
Common questions
What shoppers ask
- How many pillows should a sofa have?
- Three on a standard sofa, five across a sectional. More than that and the seat stops being usable.
- Do the covers come with inserts?
- Insert details are listed on each product page. Where a cover ships on its own, size the insert two inches larger than the cover.
- Can fur pillows be washed?
- Spot-clean with cold water and a mild soap, then air-dry and comb the pile. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
